Nothing beats home cooking

...my mum's cooking that is! One of my favourite things about going back home (as well as seeing the family of course!) is sitting down to a nice meal made by me mum.

This isn't just one meal by the way...

For the Love of Food...

Sometimes it's possible to appreciate good food without even eating it. The main reason why I started to take photos of food in the first place was because of the presentation. That's why I have been able to restrain from taking a photo of every single thing that I've eaten!

There was a guy that did that once - took a photo of every single thing that he ate for a year and then displayed them all in his gallery. It's funny because 2,500 photos of food later, he managed to lose a stone in six months - simply because he became more conscious of what he ate and didn't want the embarrassment of having to take a photo of junk food!

Well I wouldn't be ashamed of what I eat but I will only have good photos of food on here! I went into London today and on the way to lunch (irony huh?), we passed a 'Donuts and Baguettes' shop and in the window was rows and rows of donuts and baguettes! Now the baguettes looked a bit like one of those wooden houses you get made out of logs, but I had to show you the beauty of these donuts...!

Now, I don't even like donuts but don't they look pretty! It reminded me of some cookies I saw in Disneyland actually...

Yes, that's my greedy hand but don't worry, I didn't nick any. They were just sitting by an open window of a shop waiting to be eaten.

Food looks so much tastier when it's multiplied.

My Name is Jenny and I'm a Bread Junkie

I've always admitted to being a bit of a bread junkie but it really hit home when I was on the train home from London today, having scoffed a triple sarnie pack as a quick dinner.

It's not the fact that I chose a pack with that extra sandwich. No, this is actually quite normal for me because I am that lardy so usually I think nothing of it.

But after finishing it, I realised that I had already eaten a footlong Subway for lunch and two pieces of toast for breakfast (after a bowl of porridge of course). Oh, and a slice of bread as a quick snack when I got home.

Then I REALLY started to think about it. When I make my dinner at home, I sometimes (shamefully) grab a slice of bread to eat whilst I'm cooking. For work, I make two sandwiches to take in one day, meaning to eat them over two days, thus saving valuable time the next morning in not having to make my lunch again. But occasionally, I eat my second sandwich on the same day as my first because I just can't help it.

I could easily eat through a whole loaf of bread within a few days, but this is (just barely) a rare event since I live with two other people. Don't worry, I keep on top of replacing the bread whenever possible and always stress to my poor breadless housemates that I don't mind buying it all the time!

Is there such thing as a bread overdose? Last year I think it was, I decided to give up bread for a month. After doing a chocolate ban for a month, I thought it would be a doddle. I mean, if a girl can give up chocolate for that long, she can handle anything, right?

Well I was wrong!

It was such a dry month of eating Ryvita. Now I know there could have been plenty of alternatives to my usual sandwich for lunch at work. But no, I decided I would go down the 'healthy' route and eat Ryvita. What was I thinking! I don't know how I survived on eating four measly slabs of cardboard for lunch. Hm.

Man, was I glad to finish my ban with a Subway! Now, THAT'S a sandwich! Continue reading this post..

Aren't you gonna eat that?

Is it wrong that I felt compelled to finish my dad's steak last Sunday?

I'm pretty sure that it's because the way I've been brought up but whenever I eat (and I bet you're fast realising that this is quite a frequent thing for me), I make sure I finish it. Of course, there have been a couple of lapses where I haven't done so, which I'll no doubt talk about in another post. I already mentioned about being too drunk to finish my steak once *hangs head in shame*. That saddens me.

It's not about greed (hm, maybe it is a little), it's simply not wanting to let food go to waste! Especially in restaurants - why pay £15 for a meal and eat only a third of it? Order something smaller!!

I went to Covent Garden Grill for Mother's Day with the family and had a lovely steak, mm.

My dad chose to have a mixed grill which looked yummy, meat meat meat...!

...but he said his steak was too chewy and left quite a chunk of it.

"He's not gonna eat that?" - little voice chirping in my head. Seriously, I don't really like to make a habit of finishing other people's food. It's not very pleasant is it? But it was STEAK. You cannot leave STEAK! - little voice still screaming. So I leaned over, picked it up and munched it all up. It wasn't in the slightest bit chewy! I'm sure I saw a twinge of regret in my dad's eyes when I mentioned this.

Like I said, it's not something I like to make a habit of and these days I only do it with my boyfriend Matt's food at home. And that's because I've made it for him and cannot bear to see MY OWN FOOD being wasted!

My mate Dan recently described a friend of his who eats shed loads and never seems to be full. And that he swoops in on other people's leftovers as if he hasn't eaten in days. Dan says he has a tendancy to leave a bit of crust after eating a pizza or sandwich etc and did this once while in the presence of his friend.

"Aren't you gonna eat that?" - his ogled-eyed friend asks, incredulously

"Er..no"

Friend's hand swipes and ravages crust with satisfaction.

"Mm, that was SO good!"

Dan backs away slowly, wondering how the goodness of his meal can be absorbed from minute crust.

And that story is what will stop me from doing this forever more...! As far as my willpower allows anyway. I just can't resist steak. Continue reading this post..

Finger Lickin' (Not so) Good

So maybe cos I'm getting older, I'm more prone to getting extended hangovers the next day, but I always thought that the wonder cure of greasy junk food would never fail to make you feel that little speck better.

Well some reason, that didn't seem to work today and now, at half 6 in the evening, my head is still suffering for it. Last night, me and my workmates prepared a feast to nibble on whilst having a most fabulous cocktail party. We thought we would be clever and outsmart our unsuspecting brains and trick them into thinking we would be fine to drink copious amounts of different cocktails because of this wonderful spread (this wasn't all of it by the way).

I don't know how anybody else felt but it didn't seem to work for me.

In the morning, no-one could face cooking the breakfast frying goodies that someone had brought along. So, the next best thing?

KFC! Mmm...

...or actually, perhaps not. I can't deny the tasty goodness of KFC chicken and their soggy fries but I definitely did not feel the usual fatty satisfaction in my stomach afterwards. Damn that chicken for betraying us all and making me feel worse! I couldn't even bear to take a picture of it and that makes me feel a little bit sad...

And yet, although I can't face the thought of any type of food at the moment, my stomach is talking and I'm starving. Oh dear. Continue reading this post..
